I am a ground troop`
So today i have been thinking about war. I was thinking about the war of Justice. I was thinking about the vietnam war. i was thinking about the war in Iraq. I was not thinking about being the ground troop in terms of teaching, but that is what our new "advertiser" guy said to us. He wanted to know what the ground troops knew, for us to tell him our hopes and fears in terms of marketing ourselves (as a school) to parents and so forth.
i am reading a prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, and it is an intense yet hillarious, and long, but intriging story about a boy and his childhood best friends. It talks about the vietnam war and the era that was the 60's. I have this constantly on the brain and it intrigues me what that means.
so back to being a ground troop, some days i do feel like a troop daily fighting against the will of my studnets to give me such violent disrespect. I think about daily fighting the desire to sleep and not go to school (although i tried that once this year, on accident and it only proved to be a pain, i made it to school in 15 min). I think about the fight to have a job again someday. I think about the daily fight to love. I never thought that it would be such a fight to love somebody. it takes so much out of me to truly love another human being as well as truly love, evenly toughly my studnets.
Did i mention we are having a monsooon today in Denver and my shoe is broken. So there.

Hmm. Loving students can be difficult. One of my 8th graders gave me a hug this afternoon...something I never expected from my kids at West Sioux.
